Digital vehicle inspection

A vehicle inspection recorded on a phone or tablet rather than a paper sheet, with a photo or a measured value on each finding, sent to the customer as a page, and with each finding able to become a line on the estimate.

The paper multi-point sheet asked a technician to tick green, yellow or red. The digital version changes three things, and only the first is the device.

The finding has evidence. A photo of the pad, the tread reading as a number, the leak with an arrow on it. The customer sees what the technician saw rather than a colour.

The finding has a value. A three-state checkbox cannot say a tread is at 3/32 or a pad is at 3 mm, so an inspection whose items are yes, no or maybe cannot propose a line, and the advisor rebuilds the finding by hand. A numeric item with a threshold can propose the job itself.

The finding links to a line. The inspection item that proposed the brake job is on the estimate line, and the declined one is on the record for next time, so the recommendation is not retyped and the history is not lost.

A multi-point inspection is the list of items; the digital vehicle inspection is that list with the three properties above. The inspection checklist generator builds the list for a shop type from sourced seeds, and in Wrenchy the inspection's numeric findings propose the lines the advisor quotes.
